While I'm a Certified Health Coach, I am not a doctor and thus my role and goal is to work with you to develop personalized healthier choices and plans, not to diagnose or prescribe.
Let's admit it, our healthcare system is a sickcare system and doesn't support you holistically in developing a healthy life to avoid getting sick. Health coaches do.
No matter if you're pretty healthy or not healthy at all, the first step is to own it. This makes the relationship and the job of the health coach so much more fulfilling for you.
The reality is that health is hard these days and especially holistic health. Holistic health covers all areas of your life because they impact you completely. We will discuss relationships, career, joy, spirituality, exercise and nutrition to your comfort level. I will support you in your journey of a better, happier life all the way!
The world is moving so fast these days. There are a bazillion diets on the market, supposed experts to listen to in the podcast world and god knows what articles are accurate and meaningful vs. fake and bullshit.
After 25 years of executive level work across a variety of retailers and brands, and a significant lack in career fulfillment, I knew I needed to take time figuring out what would ultimately make me happy. It wasn't the authority, the money or the other aspects of the 'high life' as a high salaried executive. I made that mistake potentially one too many times.
As I had time off, I was looking through my books and I love to order books on a weekly basis. I grabbed one of the books I've been wanting to read, Genius Foods and read it cover to cover in a week. Mind you, it's a lot of science and a bit over 300 pages.
I went looking for another book. I picked up Good Calories, Bad Calories. This I went through in 3 weeks but it's over 600 pages and very much like reading an encyclopedia.
And on and on...I read the XX Brain, Blue Zones, The Grain Brain, The Mind-Body Connection, and many other books. So it got me thinking...what if I could share this information in a distilled and easy to understand form and make this world a little healthier one person at a time.
Now, while I love health and wellness, I wasn't so healthy myself. Because of the stressors of my career, that transferred in to my personal life with my husband, daughter and mother (3 most important relationships in my life) and being in my mid-40s and in perimenopause, I wasn't as healthy as I used to be.
Not wanting to make excuses as I've witnessed so many women in their 50s, 60s, 70s that looked healthier, I got to work on myself first. I tried different things such as more vegetables, less grains, less meats, more yoga and less HIIT, more walking, more time to learn and engage with my brain, more time on my relationships, more time to read, less hard alcohol and more red wine, and on and on...and it worked.
The most meaningful of all of these changes was the time I spent to focus on my relationships and myself in ways that I wanted to and not what I was supposed to. My husband and I live now with much less and feel much happier. Instead of 100s of dollars dropped on a weekend of wineries, we get great cheap wine at the store and play games at home.
One day when I was back in the United States and onslaught of Coronavirus came, I saw an ad for becoming a Health Coach on Instagram and I knew it was the role meant for me. Besides what I've already said, I had other moments in my life pointing to this including being the Fitness Expert in the Army National Guard, becoming a Certified Personal Trainer in my 30s, setting a vision for my family of going completely clean in 2009 and constantly listening to podcasts and looking at all the latest and greatest nutritional advice out there.
I decided to sign up for the most credible Health Coach certification available at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and help others improve their health and wellness. It's honestly a dream job for me and I'm looking forward to sharing that with you!
